Here we perform a SWOT analysis examining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats around the role of pharmacogenomics in public health and clinical medicine. The outcome of our analysis explains the dichotomy between the accelerated pace of discovery and the sluggish uptake of pharmacogenomics in standard clinical care.
